NAN 2016: More collectibility eye candy!

My sister, Sarah, and I were really excited to show at NAN in 2016 to support the one judge system. As collectibility showers and judges ourselves, we understand that the pool of collectors, and thus judges, for our chosen divisions is smaller than that of most other halter classes. Finding one knowledgeable person who geeks out over paper hang tags or original boxes is tricky enough, especially when so many from the already small group want to enter the show. Finding three is a tall order. So we were really happy to support this experimental endeavor, and we both agree that it was a rip-roaring success in collectibility. The competition was quite fierce, and the judging was spot-on.

Without further ado, on to the eye candy! We headed down to the Rupp arena bright and early Thursday morning with our official table mascots in tow.

Nymeria the direwolf and Alexander Camelton, mascots extraordinaire
(Yes, we are nerds.)

We showed only plastic and clinky collectibility, and we had a great time and were really thrilled with our winners.

Hoosier Pony Live, Part 3: Vintage Customs!

Hoosier Pony Live was one of the first, if not the first, shows in the country to have a NAN-qualifying vintage custom (and resin) division. Many entrants brought models for the division, everything from Eustis models to Strowger and Froelich pieces. The lighting was a bit peculiar in the hall, so not all of my pictures turned out well. Here are the best I was able to fix up in Photoshop.

I'm not sure who all of the artists are or when all of models were made, so please feel free to comment with corrections or more information. Enjoy!

I brought a couple of vintage customs from my own herd to show as well.

RM Nuclear Winter by Julie Froelich (1991 CM from Breyer
Clydesdale Mare)
Gossamer Wings by Sarah M-B (1993 CM from CAM)
(She has since had her hair tidied up nicely.)

Vintage customs have been steadily growing in popularity, and many shows now have classes for them. A few shows are even devoted entirely to vintage customs. I've been meaning to blog about vintage customs for quite some time, and while I was at BreyerWest, I participated in Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig's A Good Vintage show, so I hope to get that written up in the near future.

More tasty show photos coming later this week including NAN, Breakables, and the BreyerFest open show from 2016!

Hoosier Pony Live, part 2: OF and CMG chinas and Grand Wood Carving horses

Competition at Hoosier Pony Live was fierce in all divisions. Here is a sampling of some of the stunning OF chinas. Hagen-Renakers predominated, at least on my camera.

Rare Hagen-Renaker Monrovia White Heather
Gorgeous HR Monrovia Rose Grey Large Zara
Stunning HR San Dimas White Sheba
HR Glossy Monrovia Sespe
Rare HR Rose Grey Sherif
Hard to find HR Monrovia Chestnut Peggy Lou
One of a kind HR San Dimas Buckskin Drum Major from the HR Archive

I didn't get many pictures of the OF chinas other than the Hagen-Renakers, but here at least is one Euro clinky, the highly sought after Royal Copenhagen Grazing Shetland.

And here are some lovely custom glaze chinas that caught my eye.

CMG "Baxter," cast from a Breyer Classic Mustang CMized by Sommer Prosser,
molded and glazed by Joan Berkwitz
Sarah Minkiewicz "Oliver" glazed by Lesli Kathman (?)
Sarah Minkiewicz "Taboo" glazed by unknown
Kristina Lucas Francis' "Kulfi" glazed by Kristina (?)
Lynn Fraley's "Tynk" glazed by Lesli Kathman (?)
And now for something completely different. I am rather fond of Grand Wood Carving horses, especially the racehorses, as is my friend Diana Dubbeld. They're not very common, but between the two of us, we made a pretty decent showing.

L to R: Diana's Citation, Man O' War, and War Admiral, and my Whirlaway

Tomorrow, I'll have a bunch of pictures from the vintage custom classes. Stay tuned!
